How does Hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a technique that has been used successfully for over 100 years to quickly and efficiently treat a vast variety of symptoms. Many studies have proven the efficacy of hypnosis ( in fact it has been found to be up to 80% more effective and faster than traditional methods of ‘talk therapy’) Primarily, hypnosis is a method of deep relaxation which enables a person to access their subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is like the ‘computer’ of the brain which houses all of the collective sights, sounds and experiences of a person’s lifetime. It is also the protective part of the mind and contains what I believe to be the higher wisdom of the neshama/soul.
Once a person accesses their subconscious mind, they are able to go inside of themselves, examine undesirable behaviors or thought patterns and then ‘reprogram’themselves, much like reprogramming a computer. The hypnotist facilitates this process by walking the client through a series of deep relaxation techniques which enable them to connect with this powerful part of the mind.
Through hypnosis, a person can transform themselves; releasing old fears, accomplishing longed for goals, losing weight and achieving things they had only dreamt possible.

Contrary to stage hypnosis shows you may have seen, hypnosis is not a form of ‘mind control’. In fact, if a hypnotist makes a suggestion to a client that is not compatible with the client’s belief and value system, the client will simply reject the suggestion. Hypnosis is a consensual state between the hypnotist and the client which means that it is impossible to hypnotize someone against their will. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that people enter on daily basis, before they go to sleep at night and as they awaken in the morning, so it is impossible to get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis. Similar to sleep, a client can bring themselves out of the hypnotic state whenever they choose. Clients are also fully aware of everything that they say and will remember everything that is discussed during a session. Hypnosis engages the subconscious, protective mind in order to help clients achieve longed for results and goals.
